Nikon Releases D4S, Tells D300 Owners to “Man Up Already”

2019

Following the greatly anticipated release of the D4S, a pro camera that very few people will ever touch, Nikonians around the world are simultaneously proud yet wondering if the D300 line of cameras will ever be updated. Pros and serious amateurs alike value the crop factor of the APS-C camera in situations where reach is important, and the small buffer of the D7x00 series has made it unsuitable for certain situations. In a terse statement, Nikon tweeted the following:Nikon-D400tweet

NCN assistant junior senior editors were a bit taken back by the blunt statement, so we reached out to Nikon for clarification. Here is a transcript of our phone call:

[Phone rings. Someone picks up.]

Nikon

What? I’m busy!

NCN

Ummm…is this Archibald Reginoldsonstein, PR Manager for Nikon?

Nikon

Yea. What do you want?

NCN

I’d like to talk about Nikon’s recent Tweet regarding the D400.

Nikon

What about it?

NCN

This is highly unusual. Aren’t you supposed to be all smiley and media polished and everything, with rehearsed enthusiasm for all things Nikon?

Nikon

Whatev.

NCN

Ex…excuse me?

Nikon

Listen, do you have an intelligent question to ask or what? I’m busy and I’m tired of dealing with you ‘bloggers’.

NCN

Sorry, Mr. Reginoldsonstein, we’re just trying to get some clarification of the tweet ‘There will be no D400. Quit crying and get the D4S.’

Nikon

Are you kidding me!? Can we be any clearer?

NCN

Actually, no. But our readers are wondering why there is no  new high-spec APS-C camera where the D300 and Canon’s 7D reside.

Nikon

Yeah, and like Canon’s really rushing to get the 7D Mark II out the door, aren’t they? Don’t you people get it? There’s no market for high-end APS-C. If you haven’t noticed, the market for cameras is cratering at the moment. Our point-and-shoot sales have gone up in a puff of smoke, and our DSLRs are so good that people aren’t upgrading or replacing. We tried building in some ‘planned’ obsolescence with the D600, but look how that turned out.

NCN

Can we quote you on that?

Nikon

Sure. Have a field day. And quote us on this too…

We humbly suggest that all you D300 owners pining away for a D400…stop your whining already and get the D4s. We’re never going to release a D400. I repeat–we’re never going to release a D400. We determined years ago that the camera market was going to crater, and after the extinction of the point-and-shoot, crappy APS-C DSLRs are going to be next. So man up, sell your kidney, and get a full-frame already. Sheesh…

  1. Yes folks, shut the frack up and buy D4S and stop bitching, you have no idea how tough it is to make a camera these days!

  2. Nikon D400 is under development. That’s for sure. They will make it rich features as such Nikon V3 with 50 megapixel APS-C sensor made by Samsung.
