Nikon Introduces Invisible Camera

After weeks of rumors, pencil sketches, and spec speculation, the next generation Nikon 1, the V3, has officially been announced. And it’s invisible, just like the V1 and V2 before it.

Nikon claims that the V3 contains 18 megapickles and is capable of 20FPS with AF-C, but we’ll believe it when we actually touch and use one. The only place that we’ve seen these cameras is at the Nikon booth at camera shows and on YouTube videos. We suspect that the Nikon 1 V “cameras” at these shows are just mockups to fool the public into thinking that Nikon is serious about mirrorless cameras and are making the transition from their sell-as-many-cheap-as-chips-entry-level-DSLRs business model to something more mirrorless. There are unsubstantiated reports that the mockups actually contain Pez candy that booth staff eat during breaks.

Nikon spokesperson Suzuki Kawasaki said the following quotable thing, “The Nikon 1 V3 affirms Nikon’s commitment to DSLRs and have priced the V3, new lenses, and accessories accordingly.”

If you see the Nikon 1 V1, V2, or V3 in public, please take a picture of it for us. And lick it to make sure that it actually exists.

  1. OK, so the mirrorless 1V is a FF camera, right? Nope. APS+C? Nuh-uh. Micro four thirds? Bzzzzzz. Does it take Q lenses? Chuckle. So then what is it? Is it even a camera? Guess not…
